Toyota has launched its new-generation HiLux range in Australia boasting improved driveability, greatly enhanced interior technology and comfort, and an exterior design spearheaded by Toyota Design Australia.
Available in an extensive lineup of cab-chassis or pick-up configurations, 4X4 or 4X2 drivelines, and single, extra and double-cab body styles, the new HiLux range is priced from $33,9901 for the 4X2 WorkMate single cab-chassis manual.
The entire HiLux range benefits from an extensive range of upgrades including new electric power steering, enhanced active safety technology, latest-generation multimedia system and the standard fitment of Toyota’s powerful and reliable 2.8-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine on all grades.
The turbo-diesel HiLux will be joined by a battery-electric version in 2026, aimed at fleet, mining and business buyers wanting an electric vehicle that still retains the functionality and performance of a ute.
Toyota Australia Vice President Sales, Marketing and Franchise Operations Sean Hanley said the new HiLux would continue to deliver what customers want from their ute, with a uniquely Australian flair.
“Australian HiLux customers demand a lot from their vehicle, whether it’s tackling harsh outback terrain in extreme temperatures, or hauling a tray full of tools around suburbia day in, day out,” Mr Hanley said.
“This new-generation HiLux retains its legendary reliability, durability and class-leading off-road capability while delivering vastly improved comfort, functionality and advanced technology.
“Its bold, contemporary exterior design, led by our local design team in Australia, along with the extensive testing and evaluation carried out here, make it the most Australian HiLux yet.
“Adding a BEV variant to the HiLux range in 2026 will be a boon for businesses looking to reduce the carbon footprint of their light-commercial vehicle fleet, and showcases Toyota’s multi-pathway approach to electrification,” he said.
The new HiLux is offered in five different model grades, consisting of WorkMate, SR, SR5 and the on- and off-road Rogue and Rugged X flagships.
WorkMate and SR grades are offered with the choice of 4X2 or 4X4 drivelines, with the rest of the range being 4X4 only.
All variants are powered by Toyota’s 1GD-FTV 2.8-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine, producing a maximum 150kW of power and either 420Nm of torque when teamed with the six-speed manual gearbox or 500Nm with the six-speed automatic transmission.
Select double-cab automatic grades also offer 48-volt V-Active technology, providing smooth stop-start functionality, additional acceleration boost, and improved fuel economy.
The entry-level WorkMate grade is available in rear-wheel drive as a single cab-chassis or double-cab pick-up, while WorkMate 4X4 variants can be had as a single cab-chassis, double-cab pick-up or double-cab chassis.
The WorkMate is identified from the outside by 17-inch steel wheels, manual levelling LED headlamps, body-coloured front bumper and grille, electric exterior mirrors, sharkfin antenna and is available in four exterior paint colours2.
Front and rear mud guards, four tie-down hooks and a tailgate damper with lift assist is added for double-cab pick-up body styles.
Interior features on WorkMate include manually adjustable front seats, fabric upholstery, urethane steering wheel with tilt and telescopic adjustment, power windows, manual air conditioning, a manual parking brake and all-weather floor mats.
A new multimedia system with a 12.3-inch touchscreen is now standard across the HiLux range, offering wireless Apple CarPlay®3 and Android Auto™4 compatibility, DAB+ digital radio5, embedded satellite navigation6, and natural voice recognition.
All new HiLux variants now also feature a digital instrument cluster with a 7.0-inch display for WorkMate, along with two USB-C ports, a 12V accessory port and on single-cab grades, a two-speaker audio system. Double-cab variants add a second 12V port in the rear and a four-speaker audio system.
Safety has been improved across the board with all grades benefiting from the latest generation Toyota Safety Sense active safety technologies with enhanced functionality.
These include the autonomous emergency braking pre-collision safety system, active cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure alert and lane trace assist, road sign assist and blind spot monitor.7

A one-year complimentary trial to Toyota Connect+ and Toyota Multimedia Connect Packages are also included, which are available as paid services following the trial period.
These include an uplifted Multimedia system, offering Connected Navigation and Voice - alongside a suite of remote commands to provide added convenience and control. Supported features vary across the range.11

The SR is differentiated on the outside by 17-inch alloy wheels, silver painted lower front bumper, black painted door handles, side mirrors and hood moulding, LED front fog lamps, side steps, locking rear tailgate (pick-up only) and the choice of six exterior colours2. Owners of double cab automatic versions can also choose to change their 17-inch alloy wheels to steel wheels if they prefer.
Inside, the SR adds greater front-seat bolstering and high-grade fabric upholstery, leather-accented shift knob and steering wheel, a 300W inverter, smart entry and start, wireless smartphone charger12 and an eight-speaker audio system.
Extra safety equipment on SR includes tyre pressure monitoring and a panoramic view monitor7, while 4x4 automatic grades bring additional off-road capability with a locking rear differential, Multi Terrain Select and downhill assist control. SR customers are also able to remotely lock and unlock their vehicle through the myToyota Connect app13.
The HiLux SR also offers V-Active technology on the automatic double-cab pick-up version, with the 48-volt system employing an 8.5kW/65Nm electric motor generator, lithium-ion battery and DC/DC converter to enable smoother stop-start functionality while also providing improved driving feel when accelerating from standstill.
Above the SR sits the SR5, available exclusively as a double-cab 4x4.
While the WorkMate and SR grades retain a heavy-duty suspension tune designed for carrying loads or towing, the SR5 and above grades feature a new comfort-oriented rear leaf suspension tune which is designed to provide a more supple ride quality when unladen, while still retaining the towing and load-carrying ability of the rest of the range.
